Is Empulse Titanfall’s shot in the arm as 1047 cooks up something new
According to an exclusive report from Insider Gaming, 1047 Games, the studio behind Splitgate, is secretly developing a new shooter called Empulse. The project is still in Pre-alpha, and the report says it is expected to be formally revealed later this year. Based on leaked internal playtest footage, the clearest hook is easy to spot: this looks very much like a spiritual successor to Titanfall.
That comparison is not hard to understand from the footage alone. Players use a grappling hook, wall-running, and speed pads to tear across maps at high speed, turning movement into the main visual language of the game rather than simple ground-level strafing. In team fights, the pace looks built around constant vertical repositioning, with players moving between walls, open air, and heavy machinery instead of staying locked to the floor.

The leaked material also makes several concrete details clear: team deathmatch is in, and the maps contain giant pilotable mechs. Players can grapple into those machines and fight using a Gatling gun, shield, and missile launcher. Insider Gaming's report goes further, saying the mechs are extremely close to Titanfall in both appearance and function.

That lines up with what 1047 Games CEO Ian Proulx said earlier, when he mentioned that a small team inside the studio was building a movement shooter inspired by Titanfall and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. At this point, it seems very likely that project is Empulse.
What stands out just as much is the shift in presentation. Splitgate built its identity around portals and a cleaner, more arena-like, cartoon-leaning style. Empulse, by contrast, appears to be chasing something more grounded and realistic. The report compares its overall look to Ubisoft's XDefiant, and that feels like an important choice. If the game really wants to attract players who have spent years waiting for a new Titanfall, it cannot rely on similar mechanics alone; it also needs the sense of metal, smoke, and physical weight that gives those battles texture.

The bigger unanswered question is how Empulse will be monetized. Right now, it is still unclear whether the game will be free-to-play or a premium paid release, and that decision will shape both its player base and its update cadence. A free-to-play model would make it easier to pull people in early, especially for a shooter built around movement skill and mechanical ceiling. A paid model, on the other hand, would put more pressure on 1047 Games to launch with strong maps, solid balance, and mech combat that already feels fully formed.
That uncertainty matters because this lane has been open for years. Players have repeatedly called on EA to deliver a new Titanfall, and nothing has come of it. Because that gap still exists, any new project built around wall-running, grappling hooks, and mechs is going to be examined closely.
So the sensible takeaway is a cautious one. Do not rush to treat Empulse as a replacement for Titanfall 3. It is still only in Pre-alpha, and there is a long road between leaked footage and a finished game. But if fast, high-mobility shooters are already your thing, then its expected formal reveal later this year is absolutely worth watching.
