“Prop Hunt Wrestling” is free to claim! Is this Epic giveaway worth grabbing?

Pushing your opponent out from the edge of the arena, the win condition here feels a lot like positional control in close-quarters fighting—except Prop Sumo swaps serious combat for chaotic brawls with pots, pans, and household clutter, clearly aiming for a lightweight party-game experience. The Epic Games Store has already made this title free to claim this week, from April 9 to April 16. If you usually prefer to add games to your library first and decide later, there’s no barrier this time, so claiming it now is basically all upside.

In terms of realism, this obviously is not the kind of hardcore game obsessed with ballistics, armor, and stats. Its appeal lies in clear rules, direct confrontation, and lively presentation. Prop Sumo was developed by the German studio Barrel Roll Games, and its core gameplay revolves around controlling all kinds of everyday household items in an arena, using collisions, shoves, and disruptive abilities to knock opponents down or push them out of bounds, with the first side to reach the target score taking the win. The usable props also come with special abilities, including things like explosives and magnetic traps, making it a textbook example of “low barrier to entry, high entertainment value.”

On the tactical side, there’s one noteworthy detail about this game: it originally launched as a test version and leaned more toward technical fighting gameplay, but later, based on player feedback, the developers shifted its direction toward a more relaxed party-game style. I think that was a smart adjustment. Rather than forcing a small-scale project into the mold of a competitive blockbuster, they made a clean pivot—like abandoning a frontal assault that doesn’t suit the terrain and switching to mobile warfare instead. It may not be hardcore, but at least its positioning is accurate, and it doesn’t feel like “false advertising.” If you often play multiplayer brawlers with friends, it’s easier to get into than some games that look flashy on the surface but have loose, unfocused rules.

Looking at the claim schedule, this time there are actually two separate windows, one after the other. Next week’s free game has already been confirmed as The Stone of Madness, available from April 16 to April 23; meanwhile, last week’s giveaway, TOMAK: Save the Earth Regeneration, is still available to claim until 23:00 on April 16. TOMAK: Save the Earth Regeneration is the 25th-anniversary remake of the 2001 title TOMAK: Save the Earth, and its premise is quite bizarre: players must “adopt” the Goddess of Love, who has been reduced to just a head and planted in a flowerpot in a room, then help her regain her form by feeding her, giving her water, and interacting with her to improve her stats.

If I were to give a purchase recommendation—or more accurately, a library-addition recommendation—I’d split it into two categories. Players who enjoy multiplayer gatherings and prefer lighthearted competition should prioritize Prop Sumo: its rules are straightforward even on paper, and it’s more likely to create fun moments when playing with friends. Players who enjoy bizarre settings and can accept an old-school raising-sim framework should also remember to grab TOMAK: Save the Earth Regeneration while they can. Epic’s strategy this week isn’t exactly a full artillery barrage; it feels more like a lightly equipped reconnaissance run. Still, the clear difference in subject matter gives it an edge, and it comes across as far more sincere than several consecutive weeks of handing out overly similar games.
