Escape from Tarkov's Lighthouse Map Remade, Players Divided

Battlestate Games studio head Nikita Buyanov posted four new screenshots on social media, officially confirming a complete overhaul of Lighthouse—the most controversial map in Escape from Tarkov's history. Since launching alongside version 0.12.12 in December 2021, the map has consistently ranked as the worst player experience in the game.

The problems run deep. Boss Zryachiy and randomly spawning Goon elite squads create unpredictable firefights, while mines and traps blanket nearly every approach. The water treatment plant sits surrounded by explosives, and Rogue guards with sniper-level accuracy can pick off players from extreme distances. Perhaps most infuriating: PMC spawn points sit so far from the core area that players regularly need to cross the entire sniper-heavy landscape just to reach their objectives.

According to the announcement, the overhaul will introduce multiple new points of interest, revamp the mission structure, and systematically rebalance the entire layout. The direction sounds promising on paper, and it's worth noting that Battlestate has pulled similar rescues before—Shoreline launched to similar backlash but improved significantly through several iterative updates.

Community reaction remains sharply divided. Some players argue the map's fundamental design flaws run too deep for any overhaul to fix, and have called for its removal entirely. Others worry that the rework will amount to little more than a visual refresh without addressing the core gameplay issues. This anxiety is understandable: Escape from Tarkov has a history of ambitious promises that took far longer to materialize than initially stated.

That said, acknowledging the problems publicly and committing to solutions represents genuine progress compared to studios that simply go silent on controversial content. Whether the rework delivers on its promises will ultimately depend on the final implementation and how the community responds to the changes.
