Xiaomi built a concept supercar you can only drive in GT7

When Xiaomi's SU7 Ultra entered GT7 last June, I wondered how far this partnership would go. The answer arrived April 25: Lei Jun and Kazunori Yamauchi unveiled the Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo concept car—a pure virtual creation with no production plans.

The design follows classic GT logic: floating droplet cockpit, through-chassis airflow channels, halo taillights—all engineered for aerodynamic performance data. Strip away real-world cost constraints and regulatory limits, and you get a machine built purely for in-game extreme driving. Xiaomi is essentially using the Vision GT series as a testing ground for aggressive design ideas that production cars can't accommodate.

The timeline tells the story: Yamauchi visited Beijing in May 2025 for initial talks, the SU7 Ultra joined the game in June as the first Chinese production car in the series, and now the concept car follows. This pace outstrips most traditional automaker-game studio collaborations—like finding a shortcut on the map, bypassing the usual auto show and press conference circuit to get virtual products running first.

GT7 players will access this car in upcoming updates. What interests me more is whether Xiaomi will quietly incorporate elements of this design language into next-generation production models. The Vision GT series has a history of concept designs eventually inspiring real cars—this could be Xiaomi rehearsing for a future flagship.

The real test is whether this concept car's handling in GT7 can justify the aggressive styling. If it's just visual spectacle, the collaboration loses its edge. But if it posts competitive Nürburgring lap times, Xiaomi's technical credibility among players climbs another notch.
