GTA 6 Won't Feature Real-World Ads, Rockstar Says It Would Be Disastrous
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed at the iicon conference that GTA6 will stick to series tradition—no real-world brand placements or ads. The game launches in roughly six months.

It's a smart call. GTA has always built fully fictional worlds. Every soda, burger joint, and clothing label in the game is an original creation. These fake brands became signature elements of the series, and they give Rockstar freedom to satirize without legal blowback. You can trash a drink called "Sprunk" all you want, but slap a real brand in there and the cease-and-desist letters start flying.

Zelnick put it plainly: "Everyone knows when partnerships go too far, it becomes a disaster." He's right. Picture robbing a bank in GTA6 while billboards blast real product promos. That jarring disconnect would shatter immersion instantly. You'd be playing inside a giant ad carnival instead of a crime saga.

Plenty of AAA titles have gone the ad-placement route, and it usually backfires. Players drop hundreds on a game, then get force-fed commercials—nobody tolerates that. Rockstar's stance here is reassuring. They're still the studio that prioritizes world-building over quick cash grabs, refusing to trade long-term reputation for short-term revenue.
For indie game fans, this commitment stands out. GTA6 is AAA, but the "no compromise" philosophy mirrors what many independent developers believe: player experience trumps commercial interests. Six months until we see if Rockstar delivers. Expecting them to keep telling Vice City's story through fictional brands that actually matter.
