The Last of Us 3? Neil’s desktop photo sparks speculation

Neil Druckmann recently posted a carefully staged desk photo on Instagram, and it was enough to set off fresh speculation on Reddit about The Last of Us Part III. The image included Akira and Cowboy Bebop collectibles, plus a fan-made three-volume The Last of Us VHS set, which some players read as a hint that a reveal is coming.

That kind of desk-side teasing has become almost routine for Naughty Dog and its audience. The post does not spell anything out, but it leaves just enough room for people to read into it, and the community tends to fill that gap quickly. The subtler the tease, the faster the rumor mill turns.

What gives the discussion weight is that this is not the only sign people have pointed to. Earlier reports said Naughty Dog was working on a third game, possibly The Last of Us Part III, and that it was still in the early stages. The former director of The Last of Us Online also said that three years ago Naughty Dog had been developing a project that was not Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. On top of that, Druckmann himself has previously hinted that The Last of Us still has more to come. None of that amounts to an official announcement.

That is why this latest Instagram post feels less like evidence and more like a test of the community’s appetite. The series remains powerful because of Joel and Ellie, not just because of its bleak setting, and people are still invested in where those relationships could go next. If The Last of Us Part III ever does arrive, it will need more than a harsher apocalypse and more infected. It has to justify why the story continues at all.

For now, the safest read is simple: this is a tease, not confirmation. It is enough to fuel speculation, especially on Reddit, but not enough to turn rumor into fact. If you want a clear answer, you will have to wait for something official.
