On saleMarathonMarathon Test Delayed to June 11 With 50 Coins as Compensation
Bungie has extended Marathon's ongoing public test week to June 11, and every player who logged in during the test period will receive 50 SILK as compensation. Bungie says the move is meant to make up for the earlier server outage, which disrupted matches and disrupted players' plans. The reward will be sent through in-game mail, and players can claim it by logging in any time before the public test ends at 10 a.m. PT on June 11.
I would rate the response a 6/10. It at least looks like a real attempt to make things right, instead of the usual routine where servers go down and the publisher acts like players do not exist. Extending the test is effectively an admission that the outage really did hurt the experience. It disrupted matches and interrupted how plenty of people planned to spend their time. 50 SILK is not generous, but it clears a very low bar: better this than tossing out an apology graphic and hoping everyone moves on.

The bigger issue is still the server problem itself. Marathon is the kind of game that lives or dies on its online experience, so when the first thing to fail during a public test is the online side, that leaves a bad impression immediately. If the foundation is shaky, everything on top of it — the gunfeel, the pacing, the seasonal content — comes with an asterisk. Bungie at least did not dodge the issue here, and it clearly explained that the compensation will be delivered through the in-game mailbox. That matters. When a live test goes wrong, spelling out the process is the bare minimum, and Bungie did that much.
For players who have not tried the test yet, the practical advice is simple: if you were already curious about Marathon's current state, log in once before 10 a.m. PT on June 11 and pick up the 50 SILK. The requirement is low. A login is enough, with no extra hoops to jump through. If you were put off by the outage the first time, I also would not rush to lock in a final verdict. Extending the public test week gives the team a window to recover, and whether stability improves over the next few days will tell you more than any promotional material can.
Bungie also said it is looking forward to hearing players' real thoughts and suggestions as they explore Season 2. On that point, I am willing to give the studio some credit. Asking for feedback is still better than treating a test like a marketing beat. The problem is obvious, though: before players can offer meaningful opinions, they need an environment stable enough to actually keep playing. Without that, any talk about future seasons sounds premature.
