Mistshadow Hunter, a China-developed action RPG, recently launched on Steam, where its user reviews in Steam's China region currently sit at "Mixed." Player feedback points to a familiar split: interest in its Soulslike combat and Elden Ring-style art direction, undercut by a play experience that still feels undercooked.
There is clearly something here, just not enough polish around it. Some players have singled out its exploration, combat pacing, enemy design, and visual atmosphere, suggesting the team has a handle on parts of the ARPG structure. Those strengths, however, are being drowned out by severe technical issues and basic control omissions.

The optimization complaints are especially hard to ignore. Players report noticeable stutter even when running the game on an RTX 4090, a warning sign that is hard to wave away. When top-end hardware still cannot smooth out the experience, the problem is not the player's setup. It is the game.
The control design is just as baffling. For an ARPG leaning this hard toward Soulslike combat, Mistshadow Hunter currently has no lock-on system at all. That omission makes it difficult for controller players to adjust the camera and track targets during combat. That is a basic action-game problem, and it directly damages both the battle rhythm and the exploration experience.
The art direction is still doing some work. The game leans into an Elden Ring-like aesthetic, and some players are responding positively to its enemy design and environmental mood. That is what makes the frustration more pointed: the foundation is not the problem, but the current execution makes the game feel unfinished.

The voice-language setup is another strange weakness. By default, the game offers no Chinese voice acting and uses English voices only. For a Chinese-made ARPG trying to reach its core home audience, that choice creates unnecessary distance.
The advice is simple: wait. Interested players are better off holding back rather than paying early for a compromised, half-finished build. Until the developers add a lock-on system and fix the basic optimization issues, Mistshadow Hunter is better left on a wishlist than added to a library.
