According to the official announcement, Mortal Shell 2 has passed 1 million cumulative beta downloads across PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. The soulslike action RPG sequel launches on August 20 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5, while early access holders can start playing on August 17, three days before full release.
The beta number is a useful early read, but only up to a point. Compared with the original Mortal Shell, the sequel still seems to have traction with the soulslike action RPG crowd. The fundamentals are still demanding combat, exploration, and character growth, and the official team also thanked players worldwide for taking part in the beta.

Scale is the more useful question. According to Insider-gaming, Mortal Shell 2 is expected to take 30 to 40 hours to complete, roughly twice the length of the first game. For players who enjoy repeated attempts, route discovery, and character progression under pressure, the added length matters more than a bigger number on paper.
Still, crossing 1 million beta downloads does not tell us what launch sales or final quality will look like. The player base across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series is not uniform. Control preferences, performance expectations, and tolerance for high-difficulty combat can vary sharply by platform, so the final judgment still depends on how polished the release build is on every platform.

By soulslike standards, 30 to 40 hours is not an extreme number. Measured against the first Mortal Shell, however, the expansion in scope is clear enough. The sequel also keeps its more exaggerated violence front and center, including graphic dismemberment and bloody combat, which makes its audience fairly specific.
For anyone deciding whether to jump in, the split is simple. Players of the original should watch how the final release expands the campaign structure and adjusts the combat. Newcomers should first decide whether they are comfortable with both high difficulty and graphic violence. August 17 gives early access players a three-day head start, while waiting until August 20 is the more cautious route for anyone who wants launch feedback before committing.
