Switch Can Break If Uncharged for Six Months, Nintendo Warns
Nintendo's official support account posted a reminder about lithium-ion battery maintenance for Switch and other handhelds—devices left uncharged for extended periods risk permanent battery damage.

Lithium-ion batteries can suffer irreversible harm from prolonged low charge states, sometimes rendering them completely unusable. Nintendo recommends a full charge at least every six months, even for devices sitting in storage.
The chemistry applies universally: phones, tablets, any lithium-powered device degrades faster when neglected. Regular charging keeps the battery within a safe voltage range, slowing degradation and extending overall lifespan.
Worth noting—a few thousand dollars' worth of hardware can become e-waste simply from skipping maintenance. Set a six-month calendar reminder; a full charge cycle takes roughly ten minutes of actual effort.
One additional point: avoid deep discharge cycles. Lithium-ion cells perform best when kept between 20% and 80% charge. If you've got idle handhelds collecting dust, this weekend's a good time to audit them.
