Nvidia's RTX 5070 12GB mobile launch spells the end for Intel's discrete GPU ambitions
NVIDIA launched the 12GB VRAM variant of its GeForce RTX 5070 mobile GPU on April 29, using 24Gb (3GB) GDDR7 modules—the 8GB version sticks with 16Gb (2GB) modules. Intel, meanwhile, has effectively killed its consumer gaming GPU business. The Xe3P-based Arc Celestial lineup is confirmed canceled.

What unsettles more is how Intel exited. The company entered with fanfare in 2022, then gradually retreated until the final surrender in February 2026. This slow-motion collapse feels worse than a sudden implosion. The irony: NVIDIA plans to hand roughly 25% of its 2028 Feynman architecture GPU orders to Intel for fabrication using Intel's EMIB advanced packaging. Your former rival becomes your foundry.

But the real scare isn't that. An NZXT Kraken AIO cooler leaked due to manufacturing defects, destroying an ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 32GB OC. The user demanded compensation at current retail price—$3359.99. NZXT offered $2855. This "we broke your card but won't cover full replacement" move is more nauseating than any jump scare.

Then there's the absurd part. A repair-submitted ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4090 was confirmed as a highly sophisticated counterfeit. Hardware enthusiast Yam_Founder, who spent roughly four years building a custom watercooled rig named Seraphim, called it "the most perfect scam I've seen." When you think you bought a flagship card only to discover it's an elaborately disguised fake, that psychological dread beats any monster-count padding.

Buying advice: The RTX 5070 mobile 12GB and 8GB versions will coexist—pick based on your needs. But exercise caution with AIO coolers; quality control failures can vaporize thousands of dollars. As for used 4090s? Unless you have professional authentication capability, avoid them. Counterfeit saturation has reached "perfect scam" levels.
