160FPS Makes Issen Harder? New Onimusha Game Reveals a Frame Rate Oddity

On August 30, 2026, an NGA user said Capcom's new Onimusha game gets harder to play at high PC frame rates because the core Issen mechanic appears to have a fixed 8-frame input window. In testing, the game could run past 160 fps on an RTX 5090 with no frame cap, yet the timing window was harder to hit. Locking it to 30 fps made Issen noticeably easier to trigger.

The result is counterintuitive, but the pattern shows up quickly. Smoother output does not always mean cleaner timing when the underlying system is tied to frames. When a mechanic depends on a single timing window, pushing performance too far can make it feel less responsive, not more.

The same player settled on a compromise: cap the game at 30 fps, then use 4x frame generation to bring it back to 120 fps. That kept the motion smooth while preserving the Issen feel. The issue appears to be less about the GPU than about how the mechanic is bound to the game's timing model.

That kind of frame-rate dependency has come up before in Capcom's RE Engine games. Players have long pointed to similar problems in Resident Evil speedrunning, where 60 fps and 120 fps categories are treated separately, and in Monster Hunter, where some weapons have damage systems tied to frame timing. For PC players who want to play Onimusha seriously, frame-rate behavior may matter more than maxing out the graphics menu.
