
PS6 leak reveals 60fps path tracing with 10x ray tracing performance boost
Sony's PlayStation 6 will use AMD's RDNA5 architecture, delivering roughly 10x the ray tracing performance of the base PS5 and enabling path tracing at 60 frames per second.

After platinuming Final Fantasy XVI across 200 hours, my main wish for next-gen hardware was 60fps path tracing. The PS5 Pro already handles path tracing at 30fps, but that stutter feels like FF's combat system missing the ATB gauge—not smooth enough. Now PS6 doubles that to 60fps with 10x ray tracing gains, which is what JRPG visual enthusiasts deserve.
Real-world game performance will likely land closer to 3x improvement, since theoretical specs and actual results always diverge. Similar to how PS5's advertised SSD speeds still required a few seconds in open-world titles. Even at a 30% discount, tripling ray tracing power should make demanding Japanese AAA games run noticeably smoother.

Sony may require all games to support the portable version, which creates headaches for developers—the portable's weaker processor means the console version must compromise. Persona 5 Royal on Switch cut numerous effects to accommodate handheld mode. If PS6 follows this path, JRPGs chasing peak visuals might face a choice between performance and portability.
RDNA5 itself is AMD's ray tracing-focused architecture, and paired with Sony's custom implementation, it should theoretically push real-time lighting in Final Fantasy XVII or Dragon Quest XII closer to CG quality. For completionists, 60fps path tracing means hunting hidden collectibles without screen tearing or frame drops—just thinking about it gets me excited.
