Pokémon Champions on Switch 2 looks worse than expected, producer blames cross-platform development
Pokémon: Champions launched on Nintendo Switch 2 with its framerate locked at 30FPS and no meaningful visual upgrade over the previous generation. Director Masaaki Hoshino attributed the limitations to "cross-platform development constraints"—the game needs to run on both mobile and console hardware, forcing compromises on both ends.

The Switch 2's capabilities remain largely untapped. While all Pokémon models now feature individual shadow rendering and battle effects received a visual pass, these feel like incremental tweaks rather than a generational leap. The lighting is more refined than the predecessor, but model fidelity shows no substantial improvement.

The studio promises visual fixes and Switch 2-specific optimizations through post-launch updates. That "ship now, polish later" approach recalls the rocky launch of Pokémon: Fist Tournament Championship—not exactly a confidence booster.

If you're buying the Switch 2 version expecting next-gen visuals, wait for those updates to materialize. If you're here for the collection loop and battle systems, the core gameplay holds up—the franchise's strength has never been graphics, but the addictive progression mechanics that keep players grinding. Just temper your expectations on the visual front.
