Pragmata’s protagonist becomes a VTuber in Capcom’s Usada Pekora collaboration

Capcom made a genuinely unexpected move: Diana, the protagonist of Existence of Essence, appeared as a VTuber and crossed over with Hololive’s Usada Pekora. In the collaboration video Pekora posted on YouTube on April 24, 2026, Diana’s signature blue jacket and long blonde hair were faithfully recreated in anime form, and it looks remarkably on point.

The video itself is quite engaging. Diana demonstrates hacking skills from the game and explains the setting behind the Moon Thread material. The sharpest moment is still her line: “I heard I could meet Pekora, so I became a VTuber.” The marketing message could hardly be more direct. The two recorded in Japanese, with an English dubbed version released at the same time, showing Capcom clearly wants to reach a wider audience.

As for Pekora, she is already experienced in this kind of crossover work. She participated in a Death Stranding 2 collaboration last year, and now she has taken on Existence of Essence as well, making her a regular name in game tie-ins. Capcom likely picked her because of her strong pull among younger players.

From a marketing perspective, this is a smart play. Existence of Essence is a new sci-fi title with a naturally core-leaning audience, so using VTuber traffic to break out of that circle makes sense. But Diana’s line about “wanting to go to Earth but being unable to for now” feels like a very obvious story hint. It suggests she is still stuck at the lunar base in the current timeline, with an Earth arc likely to follow later.

For players, this kind of crossover is more like an appetizer. What really determines staying power is still the game’s actual quality, especially since Capcom’s recent record on new IPs has been mixed. Still, having the protagonist personally step in as a VTuber is bold enough to guarantee maximum discussion.
