Completionists Rejoice! Sword Art Online Added to April 2026 Free Games Lineup
Waiting for official announcements always feels endless, but this leak snapped me to attention instantly. It was unexpected when a well-known leaker revealed the flagship lineup ahead of time. Sony is set to officially announce the free games for members in April 2026. These two titles alone are enough to add hundreds of hours to my list. For me, this is the best spiritual sustenance, bar none.
Lords of the Fallen was developed by Hexworks. The dual-world mechanic allows players to switch between the realms of the living and the dead. This design is as mesmerizing as the crystal-themed variations seen in the FF series.

The large-scale multiplayer co-op game Sword Art Online: Fractured Daydream is not to be missed either. Supporting online co-op for up to 20 players means collecting elements is no longer a lonely task. It offers a single-player story mode, allowing players to experience it without knowledge of previous works. Just completing the collection log kept me playing for an extra 40 hours, and I was happy to do it. The scenes of anime characters standing on grassy stone paths are incredibly immersive.

Furthermore, this lineup caters to players who are particular about Japanese character design aesthetics. It's a shame the turn-based mechanics are implemented this way; they might as well have scrapped it for real-time action. However, this free-to-play period is indeed the best window of opportunity to try out new titles. For someone like me who wants to complete all collectibles, it's truly an unexpected gift. It's worth clearing out weekend time specifically to carefully explore for hidden elements.
It is worth noting that this type of co-op game often requires a long-term investment of effort. Players who don't enjoy grinding for gear might find the process tedious. However, free play lowers the barrier, making more newcomers willing to try. I hope Sony can bring more Japanese masterpieces to fill the lineup library in the future.
