PS6 Could Hit $949, Sony's Priciest Console Ever

Sony's next console pricing is locked in at two possible points: $749.99 or $949.99. Either figure makes PS6 the most expensive PlayStation launch in the brand's history.

The $200 gap hinges entirely on tariffs. If the 30% tariff policy lands, PS6 hits $950. If policy eases, $750 becomes the floor. That's a massive swing for a single variable.

Hardware costs aren't the constraint. Memory and SSD prices have dropped steadily over the past two years and will likely fall further by the time PS6 ships in late 2027. Tariffs are the only real wildcard—they'll directly set the final retail price.

The jump is stark. PS5 launched at $499, PS5 Pro at $699, and now PS6 could breach $900. Even the optimistic $750 scenario marks a $250 increase over PS5. That's no longer an easy ask for most players.

Sony faces a clear choice: absorb the tariff hit to keep pricing reasonable, or pass the cost to consumers. Based on PS5 Pro's pricing strategy, the latter seems more likely. Whether a $950 PS6 pushes players toward PC is worth watching.
