Redface Ronin Reveals Details With 200 Customization Options Headed to Steam
Light Hunt Games has shared new details on Red Masked Ronin, an adult-themed open-world action RPG targeting Q3 2026 on PC via Steam. The pitch is ambitious but straightforward: a feudal Japan revenge story, more than 200 character customization parameters, and a survival-crafting structure layered into an open-world RPG. Based on the newly released information, the game is trying to combine several difficult ideas at once, and whether those systems actually fit together will matter more than the pitch itself.

The premise at least suggests this is not chasing a conventional samurai power fantasy. The protagonist was once a warrior in service to the shogun, but after creating shunga depicting the shogun's sister and triggering a scandal, he is stripped of his status and cast out. He becomes a ronin and is then hunted by ninja assassins sent by local daimyo. That gives Red Masked Ronin a slightly different shape: not just map clearing and routine questing, but a survival-driven revenge tale shaped by constant pursuit.

So far, Light Hunt Games is clearly trying to sell the adult content, open world, and action RPG elements as a single package. The real question is whether the underlying systems can carry it. The studio says the game offers over 200 customization options, and that player choices will affect both story direction and dialogue. That suggests the game is trying to tie character building directly to branching narrative, rather than treating customization as a cosmetic side feature. For players who want RPG systems to affect more than just numbers, that is more interesting than a simple pile of stats.

The world leans on an Eastern shanshui-inspired aesthetic, with locations including villages, markets, forests, hot springs, bridges, mountains, and castles. Just as important, players will be able to interact with NPCs such as geisha, samurai, blacksmiths, and fishermen, with each character having an individual personality and a dynamic dialogue tree. If it lands, the game's appeal will come less from a few dramatic main-story beats and more from its ability to sustain immersion over time through repeated encounters and smaller events.

Mechanically, the game looks closer to a hybrid than a purely story-led RPG. Its systems include mining, gathering, logging, crafting, hunting, and hardcore combat. Players can also buy property, improve it through decoration and NPC placement, using that to raise reputation. That broadens the structure beyond a single-track revenge plot into something closer to resource management and long-term progression. That mix should appeal to players who like survival systems, character progression, and sandbox exploration, assuming the combat feel and quest density hold up.
