Resident Evil Code Veronica trailer tops charts in 48 hours as sales hit records

Capcom revealed the first trailer for Resident Evil: Code: Veronica Remake at Summer Game Fest 2026, and in under 48 hours it climbed to No. 1 among all debut Resident Evil trailers on Sony's official PlayStation YouTube channel. It has now reached 3.87 million views, breaking the channel's all-time record. The numbers make the point on their own.

This looks like more than a routine nostalgia spike. It feels more like players returning to a long-missed favorite. Resident Evil: Code: Veronica has lingered in fans' minds partly because Capcom left it untouched for so long. Unlike entries Capcom has revisited often, Code: Veronica kept its sense of occasion. Once it finally returned, a surge of interest was almost inevitable.

What I care about most now is how the remake handles its characters. Code: Veronica is remembered as more than just another Resident Evil; for many players, the draw is seeing those heightened character dynamics reworked for a modern audience. If the remake only updates the visuals and relies on nostalgia, that will feel thin. If Capcom seriously reworks the dialogue, pacing, and character arcs, though, this could become one of the most emotionally resonant entries in Capcom's current remake run.

The view-count comparison backs that up. The previous No. 2 trailer was Resident Evil Village with 3.30 million views, while Resident Evil 4 Remake sat at No. 3 with 3.10 million. More importantly, both of those totals were accumulated over years. Code: Veronica passed them in less than 48 hours, which says a lot about the level of interest.

The main reason for caution is how little Capcom has actually shared so far. The company has only confirmed a 2027 release and platforms including PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC. The details that will actually decide its reception—gameplay, presentation, and how extensive the adaptation is—are still unclear. The trailer numbers are impressive, but they say more about audience appetite than the game's final shape.

There is still no reason to rush to a verdict. For series veterans, two questions matter most: how well the characters are rewritten, and how bold the story adaptation is willing to be. Newer players will get more out of future showcase footage, especially fuller gameplay and narrative segments, than from a trailer with huge views. Capcom has already gotten attention. The real test for Resident Evil: Code: Veronica Remake is whether the game itself can live up to that response.
