At the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8, 2026, Activision and Toys for Bob officially revealed Spyro: A Realm Beyond, a brand-new Spyro sequel. Its first trailer is already live, and the game is set to launch in Spring 2027 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, with a day-one debut on XGP. The setup is straightforward: Spyro is stranded in a strange fantasy realm, a raider army is moving in, and the new adventure aims to make flight a bigger part of the experience.

The trailer’s strongest first impression is the world itself. The landscape has a damp, luminous fantasy look that immediately catches the eye: waterways, grasslands, arched bridges, and broad aerial routes that seem designed for players who like to stop and take in the view. For a series like Spyro, that matters. Platforming has always been part of the appeal, but so has the sense that it’s a place worth lingering in.

More importantly, Spyro: A Realm Beyond is being framed as a genuine new sequel, not merely another revival built around a familiar mascot. According to the official synopsis, Spyro becomes unexpectedly stranded in a fantastical and mysterious land. While searching for a way home, he runs into an invading army of raiders, meets new allies, and fights to protect the realm. It is not an especially complicated premise, but it fits the series well: bright fairy-tale charm paired with a steady adventure cadence.

The stronger hook is the focus on flight and aerial mobility. Diving, climbing, and sharp turns are specifically highlighted, and in a Spyro game, those are not minor details. This is a series where movement itself can be the draw, not just the means to the next collectible. If the level design really leans into vertical space, open traversal, and airborne exploration, that could be far more compelling than simply filling maps with collectibles.

Still, the real question is how much of that reinvention will hold up beyond the trailer. The official pitch frames it as a fresh adventure in a fantastical, mysterious land, and presents the game as a new step for the series. What will actually decide its quality, though, is map density, flight feel, and camera work. If those flying moves look expansive on paper but play out like little more than guided passes through the scenery, the result could feel polished but hollow: attractive at a glance, less convincing once you spend time there.

On the practical side, the platform rollout is straightforward: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and a day-one launch on XGP. That makes it especially friendly for cautious players. For longtime fans in particular, this kind of platforming adventure is easy to overhype before anyone has touched it. Being able to test the flight system and soak in the world through a subscription is the safer approach. If future gameplay shows the game does more than simply let Spyro fly, and turns airborne exploration into a real reason to keep playing, then this could be the sequel that gives the old IP real lift again.
