Is the Switch 2 version of *Starfield* not dead? But this port truly isn’t an easy one this time

Starfield’s platform expansion has recently looked like a continuously accelerating offensive. Just a few days ago, Bethesda officially announced that the game will launch on PS5 on April 7; and now, a new rumor has shifted the conversation to Switch 2: the project hasn’t been canceled, but progress appears to be seriously stalled.

According to a report cited by GamingBolt, leaker NatetheHate said in a reply to fans on Twitter that the Switch 2 version of Starfield is still in development, though his exact wording was quite blunt: "That version is still in development, but the process has not been going smoothly, so all we can do is pray everything works out." Considering his usually cautious approach and his solid track record, this information is definitely worth paying attention to—but it’s still far too early to start celebrating.

More importantly, this rumor does not stand alone. Last month, another relatively reliable insider, Shinobi602, also mentioned that the port had been delayed and even faced the risk that it “might never release at all.” Taken together, these two pieces of information paint a more realistic picture: Bethesda most likely hasn’t given up on it yet, but the Switch 2 version of Starfield is clearly not in the kind of smooth, on-track state where all that’s left is an official announcement.

From an industry perspective, this is more interesting than simply “will it come to NS2 or not.” Starfield has first been confirmed for PS5, and now reports suggest a Switch 2 version is still being attempted, which essentially indicates that Bethesda’s stance on multi-platform releases is continuing to loosen. For players, that’s good news: the more devices the game is available on, the lower the barrier to entry. But for the value of platform exclusives, the impact is equally direct—the competition around future blockbusters may increasingly be less about “does your platform have it” and more about “how well does your platform run it.”

If you’re still on the fence, my advice is simple: don’t make a purchase decision based on rumors. If you want to experience Starfield as soon as possible, the only confirmed information right now is that the PS5 version will arrive on April 7; as for the Switch 2 version, until the official word comes from Bethesda, it can only be considered a potential option. Especially with an RPG of this scale, if the porting process runs into trouble, the final impact is often not limited to the release date, but also affects visuals, frame rate, and the overall experience.

For Nintendo platform players, the value of this rumor is really more like a test shot: if even a game on the scale of Starfield is being actively considered for Switch 2, then third-party support for the new console may end up being even stronger than many people expect. But at this stage, it must be emphasized that all of the above information comes from insiders, and Bethesda has not officially confirmed anything. Take it rationally, and don’t let the rumors send expectations soaring too early.
