Starship PS5 hotfix triggers Xbox player backlash
Bethesda pushed an emergency hotfix for Starfield's PS5 version within days of launch, targeting crashes when viewing load orders and patching multiple stability issues. The turnaround stands in sharp contrast to the Xbox version's prolonged wait for similar fixes.

Xbox players aren't happy. Starfield launched on Microsoft's platform over a year ago as a first-party title, yet longstanding issues remain unresolved while the competing PS5 version gets immediate attention. Social media backlash was swift: "Did Microsoft buy Bethesda to service Sony?"

Cross-platform precedents make this worse. When Baldur's Gate 3 hit PS5 issues, Larian prioritized fixes there too—but they'd already polished the PC version before Xbox launch. Bethesda's approach feels like favoring the new arrival over the day-one crowd.

Bethesda's official response encourages affected players to contact support with save files. Xbox users have heard that line for over a year. PS5 newcomers get white-glove treatment while the original playerbase gets second-tier status.
The core issue is resource allocation. When Cyberpunk 2077 imploded, CDPR at least deployed patches uniformly across platforms. Bethesda's uneven response gives Xbox players legitimate grounds for frustration—same price, different service quality makes no sense for a first-party game.
