Shift Up revealed Stellar Blade 2: Blood Rain at the 2025 Summer Game Fest, and the Kindy Funny Gamescast team jumped in for a roughly 10-minute hands-on session with the opening sequence.
The open world feels alive. Where the first game felt sparse and empty, the sequel paints a more realistic, lived-in picture—streets bustle with pedestrians, environmental details are sharper. For an action-adventure sequel, that's a significant step forward. The original Stellar Blade's biggest weakness was its thin open-world content and narrative that never quite matched its exceptional combat depth—Blood Rain clearly targets those exact weaknesses.
Combat keeps the series' signature weight and punch, now boosted by new weapons like the mechanical gauntlets. In the demo, new protagonist Evie is pursued by mutated creatures while landing gauntlet strikes with clear visual impact. Motion is fluid, and move variety has improved. Stellar Blade already set the industry benchmark for combat—exceeding that was always going to be the hard part.

Overall production scale and atmosphere have improved. The demo's opening extends the trailer's narrative, with Evie fighting through a hazardous environment at a tight, intense pace. If Shift Up can deliver a genuine storytelling breakthrough, Stellar Blade 2 could surpass its predecessor.
For action-adventure fans, this sequel is worth watching. Keep an eye out for more detailed gameplay demos—specifically how the open-world content and narrative depth shape up. Those two dimensions will directly determine how high this game can go.
