PS5 Pro’s 《识质存在》 finally fixes its visual shortcomings with Update 1.21

Capcom’s 1.21 update for Shizhicunzai makes a textbook correction in priorities: instead of piling on more effects, it restores the game’s base rendering resolution to a sensible level. The official patch notes were restrained, but technical outlets quickly confirmed the key change on PS5 Pro. Internal rendering has gone from 864p to 1080p, bringing it back in line with the standard PS5.

That matters because version 1.20 had created an awkward situation: in the 60fps mode, the PS5 Pro was actually running at a lower resolution than the base PS5. On both a design and technical level, that looked badly misjudged. More powerful hardware was delivering a softer image in the mode players use most, a resource split that suggested an implementation imbalance and even raised questions about late-stage production pressure.

From a design perspective, the issue was never just about ugly numbers on a spec sheet. Players buy a PS5 Pro not to stare at 864p versus 1080p counters, but to get cleaner, steadier image quality in motion, along geometric edges, along long straight lines, and in distant detail. Digital Foundry’s testing says version 1.21 brings a clear improvement in precisely those areas, with the previous overall softness significantly reduced.

On the technical side, the update is another reminder that upscaling is not a universal fix. Before this patch, Shizhicunzai was already dealing with low ray-traced reflection resolution, and even with PS5 Pro’s PSSR handling reconstruction, weak source material still limited the final image. Now that the base input has been raised from 864p to 1080p, PSSR has far more to work with, and the resulting image quality improves with it. It’s a straightforward example of how upstream asset quality sets the ceiling for downstream presentation.

The most interesting part is that Capcom did not lead with a big announcement. Brazil Pixel first spotted the resolution change with custom tools, and Digital Foundry later confirmed it. In practice, that shows how community specialists and technical media are now performing a kind of return testing for platform holders and publishers. It also reflects how much more sophisticated console image-quality discussion has become: players no longer settle for “the Pro version is stronger” as a marketing line, and instead ask exactly where the performance budget is being spent.

From a business perspective, this patch also looks like necessary damage control. For PS5 Pro as a premium model, the real risk is not an occasional fluctuation but a lasting narrative that spending more money gets you worse baseline image quality. Once that perception hardens, fixing it later with patches only becomes more expensive. By correcting the issue in 1.21, the team at least shows a willingness to acknowledge that the performance allocation in the PS5 Pro high-performance mode was not ideal, and to fix the weak point in a direct way. That is a professional response.

If you are already playing Shizhicunzai on PS5 Pro, this update is worth installing immediately because the improvement is visible to the naked eye. If you held off because of the controversy around 1.20, this is a good time to look again. It is not a dramatic overhaul, but it does restore the baseline image quality a more powerful machine should have had in the first place. For players, this is a bug fix. For the developers, it is a correction that puts a misallocated performance budget back on track.
