FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTHLoading store offers~ $49.99Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Set for Spring 2027 as Reactions Split
Summer Game Fest revealed a wave of updates this morning, but the biggest reveal was Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, the third entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake project. It debuted with its first trailer, confirmed a day-one multi-platform launch, and is targeting Spring 2027. Around it, the show also included a 3-minute new gameplay demo for Gujian, the formal announcement of the Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake, and Monster Hunter Wilds expansion DLC Ascendance, making for one of the show’s busiest lineups, with reaction already split across the community.
What stood out first was the volume. From Gujian getting a 3-minute new gameplay presentation to Resident Evil: Code Veronica finally receiving its remake reveal, then Monster Hunter Wilds officially confirming its large-scale expansion Ascendance, it was an unusually crowded presentation.
Gujian was one of the more notable appearances. A domestic Chinese title getting 3 minutes of new gameplay at Summer Game Fest says plenty on its own. Gameplay is always a better test than pure CG because it shows the design, including the weak points. The standard is the same as ever: looking impressive in a trailer is one thing, but the real question is whether it avoids collapsing into a generic action RPG once you actually play it.
Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, though, was the heavier hitter. The title is now official, the trailer is out, and Square Enix was clear on the key details: day-one multi-platform, Spring 2027. This was a proper reveal, not a placeholder tease. The interesting part is that the discussion around it already feels sharply split, with longtime fans finally seeing the project take shape while more cautious players are immediately doing the math on timeline, platforms, and whether the project can maintain momentum all the way to 2027.
The downside of a showcase this packed is that newer projects can get crowded out. Stellar Blade: Blood Rain made its first appearance with a trailer, and CrossFire: Covert was introduced as a brand-new AAA single-player narrative game. Both are easy pitches to grasp at a glance. One has the natural pull of being a new entry in an established series; the other is taking a familiar multiplayer shooter IP and steering it toward a more explicitly story-driven single-player structure, which is at least an interesting shift for the IP.
Capcom also delivered one of the show’s most straightforward applause lines by formally announcing the Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake. On the other side, Monster Hunter Wilds officially announcing major expansion Ascendance is the sort of update that speaks for itself. In practical terms, these are the simplest calls to make: if you are already a series fan, put them straight on your watchlist. If you are not, wait for more gameplay and system details before deciding.
Some of the most useful updates were the practical ones. Lords of the Fallen 2 confirmed it is dropping PC Epic exclusivity and coming to Steam, which is a very concrete win for PC players. Gothic Remake is already available now. Palworld has officially announced its 1.0 version for July 10. Remedy’s new game Control: Resonance also locked in a release date of September 24. Those updates matter more than vague promises because they actually attach games to a calendar.
Elsewhere in the lineup, Lin'an Twenty Four Studio showed a new trailer for Return to Tang. Street Fighter 6 showed a new PV featuring a surprise appearance from Tifa. Blood of the Dawnwalker, the new project from the former The Witcher 3 director, is set for September 3, 2026. Ubisoft also showed a new trailer for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag - Memory Reset, while reiterating its July 9 release date and confirming pre-orders are live. The Wolf Among Us 2 got a new trailer as well, while the original The Wolf Among Us is getting a remastered re-release.
There were also several longer-range announcements. CLUTCH, a new driving game from a team made up of former Forza Horizon developers, debuted with its first trailer. Attack on Titan 3 from Omega Force was revealed for the first time. Guild Wars 3 is now official and will begin beta testing in Fall 2027. Gundam: Rogue Orbit was also revealed and is targeting 2027. Stranger Than Heaven made its debut with a trailer and is set to launch on January 17, 2027.
