Valorant Return Stream Falls Flat as Xiaoxiao Faces an Uphill Fight
Former LOL pro and veteran esports streamer Sun Yalong, better known as "Xiaoxiao," has officially resumed streaming on Bilibili, following an August 4 post explaining why he was coming back. The return is tied to earlier contract obligations and a partial income clawback involving Bilibili, and his first prime-time broadcasts saw him queueing in a Valorant stack with Mianbao, ybj, and other familiar streamers.

The label that spread fastest among viewers was "a million in debt." That is also the easiest part to misunderstand. Sun said the situation stemmed from his long absence from streaming, which had recently triggered contract requirements and the recovery of part of his income. More precisely, the dispute mainly involves team income and contract-linked clawbacks. Sun himself has not disclosed a specific amount.
That matters because this return was never just about logging on and playing a few games. For older viewers, Xiaoxiao's name still carries the memory of a specific live-streaming style: loose, loud, built around personality, and sustained by years of shared jokes. His comeback was enough to pull many long-time viewers back into the room. Whether they stay is a different question.

The choice of Valorant raised the stakes. Recognizable names in voice chat do not automatically make Valorant entertaining. The game depends on aim, timing, coordination, and quick reactions, especially when the stack includes people like Mianbao and ybj. Viewers were not tuning in for ordinary ranked matches. They were expecting clever pathing, sudden flanks, improvised moments, and a little controlled chaos.
The actual broadcast was quieter than that. Sun and the group tried to manufacture entertainment through "pubstomping" weaker lobbies, but the stream did not produce many standout moments. As the broadcast went on, some viewers in chat focused their complaints on the lack of highlights. The comeback had attention. It did not yet have enough spectacle.
The broader issue is familiar: an older streamer returning to a changed streaming landscape. The old appeal was built on personality and familiarity. The current audience judges streams by instant entertainment value, clip potential, and competitive tension. Xiaoxiao's past style can still bring people back, but nostalgia alone does not make the broadcast feel new.

That does not mean the road is closed after one quiet return. A subdued first broadcast is not a final verdict. But if future streams lean only on familiar teammates and old bits, Valorant's pace will make the gaps obvious quickly. For viewers, this is best treated as a check-in, not a comeback that has already proved itself. For Sun Yalong, the real task is not proving that he is back. It is making the stream feel worth following again.
