200MP photos on WeChat? WeChat stickers can finally be sent in original quality

On April 29, WeChat rolled out an image-quality upgrade for stickers: on Android, WeChat 8.0.71 and above can now send and view original images up to 200 megapixels. This capability comes from WeChat’s social-ecosystem collaboration with OPPO, and it is not yet available on iOS.

It’s worth it. This update directly addresses a real pain point. In the past, images sent through WeChat official accounts and chat stickers were automatically compressed, with detail stripped away layer by layer, leaving photography users and phone makers equally frustrated. Now that original images can be sent directly, the pipeline is at least open end to end, and 200 megapixels no longer exist only on launch-event slides.

At its core, this is WeChat fixing infrastructure, not just adding a bigger number. On April 21, OPPO Find X9s Pro launched, with both its main camera and telephoto at the 200-megapixel level. If social platforms do not keep up, hardware advantages get erased by compression algorithms. WeChat now bundles sending, viewing, and Moments sharing, which effectively completes the loop.

But the boundary is clear: Android first, while iOS users still have to wait. Inconsistent cross-platform experience will directly affect both reputation and how efficiently the feature spreads. If you send a friend an original image and their device cannot display the full detail, the experience is immediately discounted.

The advice for regular users is straightforward. If you often shoot high-megapixel landscapes, documents, or expo materials—or already deliver images inside WeChat—you should now update Android WeChat to version 8.0.71 or above. If you mostly take casual shots for social logging, this feature will not feel especially transformative, so don’t get carried away by the “200 megapixels” label.

From an industry perspective, this is not a minor feature, but a reactive upgrade in social platforms’ image standards. Mobile imaging has already pushed into ultra-high megapixels; if platforms keep enforcing heavy compression, the disconnect only grows. WeChat is not early on this move, but the direction is right.
