Does 007 First Light hint at a sequel?

007 First Light is now out on PC, and according to GameSpot, some players who bought the premium edition and got early access have already finished it. They then uploaded cutscenes, including the ending, to YouTube. That ending does not tie everything off neatly. Instead, it leaves a clear trail of clues that strongly suggests a sequel is already in the works.

That kind of move is hardly shocking in a Bond game, but 007 First Light treats it more like deliberate long-term setup. IO Interactive has already said it wants to make a “Bond game trilogy” rather than a one-and-done entry, which means this younger James Bond is being positioned as the start of a continuing narrative track, not a disposable lead.

Hakan Abrak, IOI’s CEO, was even more explicit in 2024. He said he hoped to create a game that could define “James Bond game” for many years to come, while also building a game universe that could keep expanding, much like the film series. The point there is not just scale. It is stability: the character and world need to be solid enough to support whatever comes next.

The downside is obvious. If a first game advertises its sequel too openly, it can weaken its own sense of closure. Bond has always worked because he is both a character and a symbol that gets rewritten over and over. If 007 First Light makes its “young Bond” premise feel uncertain and alive, then the sequel tease will land like a satisfying final beat. If not, it risks feeling like a trailer stretched into a full game.

For players who care about spoilers, the situation is already messy, since the ending has been uploaded to YouTube by early-access buyers who have finished the game. If narrative completeness matters to you, it may be worth waiting for the wider response before deciding whether this opening chapter really supports IO Interactive’s planned trilogy. In the end, what defines an IP is not how many sequel hooks it hides, but whether the first game makes its protagonist’s fate worth following.
