Assassin's Creed IV remake tops charts as Ubisoft finally delivers what fans wanted
Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag - Memory Reset topped the PlayStation Store charts in ten regions—including the US and major European markets—right after its first trailer dropped. The remake, built from scratch on the latest Anvil engine by Ubisoft Singapore, marks a sharp pivot after Assassin's Creed Shadows became the lowest-selling entry in the franchise's last five releases.

The studio isn't just remastering visuals—ray tracing and Dolby Atmos are in, but so are overhauled combat and stealth systems. New content includes a dedicated Blackbeard storyline and three additional commanders. Black Flag already had strong series goodwill thanks to its pirate setting and open-ended naval gameplay; leaning into that instead of layering on complex progression systems feels like the right call.

Pre-orders come with the Blackbeard Crimson Pack, and Grammy-nominated artist Woodkid composed a new theme. The package is straightforward: refined ship combat, Caribbean exploration, no grind. If Ubisoft keeps monetization light, this could land well with players who want a polished experience without the bloat.

Launches July 9, 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. For casual players, a low-commitment game with strong visuals and naval freedom is an easy sell—especially one that doesn't demand a second job to finish.
