At Nintendo's June 9 Direct, House House announced that Big Walk will launch on August 4, 2026. Sony then confirmed that the PS5 version will join PlayStation Plus Essential on day one, letting subscribers claim it in August at no extra cost. That makes Big Walk the first known title in that month's PlayStation Plus lineup, and the PS5 version will also support cross-play with PC.

The day-one Plus release is notable, but the more interesting part is the game itself. Big Walk is built around the simple idea of a group of people roaming around together. The game supports up to 12 players in online co-op, with an open world built around exploration, puzzle-solving, and shared objectives. That gives it the loose, social energy multiplayer games often rely on, but with a clearer emphasis on cooperation. House House, the studio behind Untitled Goose Game, has always been good at twisting simple ideas into something pleasantly odd. That track record is enough to make this one worth keeping an eye on.
The way this announcement rolled out is unusual, but it suits the game. Nintendo announced the release date, and Sony followed by confirming a day-one PlayStation Plus Essential release. That combination is rare, but for an indie-leaning social multiplayer game like Big Walk, it makes a lot of sense. Co-op games live or die on having enough people around at launch. A PlayStation Plus Essential launch should give it a healthy player base in its first month, and cross-play brings the PC audience into the same pool. For an indie online game, that is a better launch setup than most ever get.

That 12-player limit matters more than it might seem. Four-player co-op is standard now, and even six to eight is no longer unusual. But if the objective design is smart enough, 12 players could create exactly the kind of half-organized, half-chaotic comedy this studio excels at. In a House House game, the appeal is not just teamwork. It is the moment when someone is trying to do the sensible thing while someone else turns that sensible thing into a problem.
The problem is that the public details are still fairly broad. We know there will be exploration, puzzles, and shared goals, but we do not yet know whether those goals have enough variety or whether the open world has the interaction density to sustain the concept. If the pitch is mostly the 12-player count and the actual structure underneath is thin, it could easily end up as a charming novelty for a couple of nights rather than something with real staying power.

If you are a PlayStation Plus subscriber, the takeaway is simple: claim it in August. Multiplayer indies that hit subscription services on day one are often at their best when the servers are busiest and the novelty is still intact. If you are on PC and already have a regular group, it may be smarter to wait for more gameplay and focus on two things: how layered the puzzles are, and how much meaningful interaction the world actually supports. For anyone who liked Untitled Goose Game, Big Walk already has its strongest early advantage: trust in the developer. Now it needs to prove that this good idea can hold up as more than a one-week collective stroll.
