Conan Exiles Gets a Free UE5 Upgrade and It Really Feels Reborn

On 2026年5月5日, Funcom and Inflexion Games announced that Conan Exiles Enhanced Edition is now live on Steam. The full game has been moved to UE5, and the upgrade is free for all current and future Steam owners.

For Conan Exiles, that kind of overhaul matters. This has always been a survival game that depends heavily on atmosphere, so visual quality does more than impress in screenshots. When the texture in the rocks, firelight, and nighttime shadows falls flat, the whole world loses some of its pull. The Enhanced Edition raises the floor and ceiling at once, with clear upgrades to environments, characters, lighting, and effects. The result is a harsher, more convincing world that feels easier to believe in and easier to stay in.

This is also more than a straightforward engine swap. According to the official details, the release folds in eight years of post-launch updates and connects the Exiled Lands with the Isle of Siptah into one seamless adventure. The catch remains the same: Isle of Siptah still has to be purchased separately. For long-time players, that structure should make exploration feel more continuous, especially for anyone who has already spent a long stretch rooted in one map.

Performance is just as important here, and Funcom’s messaging is unusually direct. The official claim is that on the vast majority of PCs, the game can hold a stable 60+ FPS across Low, Medium, High, and Ultra settings. Steam Deck performance is also being highlighted as one of the key wins of this upgrade. In a survival-building game, smooth performance is not a bonus feature; combat, base construction, mounted travel, and long-distance traversal all depend on it. Better visuals only matter if the frame rate holds up, and on paper at least, this update is aiming to do both.

Beyond visuals, the multiplayer implications may matter even more. Servers now support running both maps at the same time, and players who own the Isle of Siptah DLC can move through a larger shared world. That change should directly affect the pace of guild play and co-op sessions with friends. One long-standing friction point in Conan Exiles was that it had plenty to do, but the split between maps could make the experience feel segmented. With that divide reduced, community activity has a real chance to climb again. Since its original launch on 2018年5月8日, Conan Exiles has brought in more than 1500万 players, so it has never lacked for people willing to return and take another look.

If Conan Exiles is already sitting in your Steam library, the decision is easy: a free upgrade is the most practical reason possible to jump back in. If you have never played it but are interested in survival crafting, slave camps, wilderness outposts, and tribal conflict, this also looks like a better entry point than before. The main limitation is platform availability. Right now, there are no plans for consoles, the Epic Games Store, or the Windows app store, though the official line is that future release possibilities are still being evaluated. For the moment, Steam is the clearest way in. For returning players, this feels like an old settlement relit. For newcomers, it clears the first and most important hurdle: making this world look worth entering.
