Fallen in 24 Hours! "Resident Evil 9" Leads Multiple Blockbusters Cracked
The security defenses of the gaming industry have been breached again. Foreign media iXBT.games revealed that a hacker team cracked multiple DRM-protected games within just 24 hours. This list is staggering, including not only Resident Evil 9: Requiem, but also highly anticipated new titles like Red Desert and Monster Hunter Wilds, even affecting Soul Hackers 2 and Two Point Museum.
For independent developers, Denuvo was once a shield against piracy, but now it has become ironic. When AAA titles from major studios fall within a day, we must examine the actual effectiveness of anti-piracy technology. High licensing fees did not buy lasting security; instead, they increased the burden on legitimate players. The hacker team cracked multiple DRM-protected games within just 24 hours; this efficiency declares the failure of relying solely on technical lockdowns.
From a strategic perspective, this is a double-edged sword for the industry ecosystem. On one hand, cracking behavior destroys the legitimate ecosystem of the gaming industry, further compressing the survival space for small and medium-sized teams; on the other hand, this also forces publishers to reflect on their sales strategies. If works like Football Manager 26 or Borderlands 4 cannot protect day-one sales through encryption, then live service operations and community building are the core competencies. Indie games should even more so avoid the arms race and focus on gameplay innovation.
The player community has mixed reactions to this. Some cheer for the free experience, while others worry about subsequent updates stagnating. As the report states, the act of cracking games will only continue to destroy the legitimate ecosystem of the gaming industry. For players, my advice is: if you love a certain work, especially in the indie game sector, supporting it at launch is the key to ensuring the birth of sequels. Technical defenses will eventually be breached; only trust can sustain the creation cycle. Major studios need to understand that player experience is superior to encryption strength; this is the long-term strategy.
