Playground Games’ Forza Horizon 6, published by Xbox, opened its premium edition early on May 15, ahead of the full PC and XSX launch on May 19. The first wave of Steam reviews is already in, and the numbers tell a fractured story: a 62% global approval rate (Mixed) drops to just 32% in Simplified Chinese (Mostly Negative). While some praise the handling, optimization failures and an early-unlock strategy are quickly turning the rollout into a rough ride.

The menu interface sets a surprisingly refined tone. It strips away clutter, leaving only a dynamic car render and a handful of essential buttons. That minimalist aesthetic, reminiscent of GRIS crossed with a racing sim, pairs well with the physics engine. The steering feedback is tight, and the driving loop feels naturally polished when it actually runs. But that’s exactly where the experience fractures. Engine loading stutters and inconsistent frame pacing break the immersion just as quickly as it builds.

The review split explains why. The 62% global rating reflects players who managed a stable launch, but the 32% SC score highlights a more urgent issue: the game frequently refuses to open or crashes to desktop without warning. Combined with the premium early access rolling out days before the official release, many feel backstabbed by a rushed port. High-fidelity visuals and a clean UI can’t compensate for a foundation that keeps buckling under basic load.

The track design and interactive checkpoints still carry the series’ usual mechanical spark, but the technical execution currently drags the experience down. Forza Horizon 6 isn’t broken, just actively unpolished. If you prioritize consistent frame pacing over day-one hype, hold off until Playground Games ships a stability patch. Waiting a week for a functional build is far smarter than fighting crash logs on launch day. Independent racing fans should look for proven polish first, not rushed marketing calendars.
