Grand Theft Auto 6 PC launch date pending as console priority draws criticism

During an August 9 investor call, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick insisted rising hardware costs won't delay GTA6, keeping the launch locked for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. He also confirmed the obvious: there is no PC release date, and consoles are taking priority. The sting is in the data Zelnick himself cited — PC now accounts for 40%-50% of sales, up from 1%-2% two decades ago.

I would give Zelnick's remarks a 6/10. He isn't wrong, but he isn't really saying anything. Console price hikes and GTA6 sales are two entirely different conversations. When I played San Andreas on PS2 in 2004, the hardware wasn't cheap for a middle schooler, either. Zelnick saying he "doesn't believe this will slow us down" is technically true, but it carries zero information.

PC players, meanwhile, are stuck waiting yet again. Rockstar's approach to PC ports hasn't shifted in twenty years. GTA5 launched on consoles first, with the PC port arriving eighteen months later. Red Dead Redemption 2 did the exact same thing. This time, Take-Two is spelling it out explicitly: consoles get priority, and PC doesn't even have a release window.

The sales breakdown Zelnick shared was the call's most revealing moment. PC's share of sales climbed from 1%-2% twenty years ago to 40%-50% today, and he expects that percentage to keep rising. It's obvious that PC has been a core pillar of Rockstar's business for a long time, yet players on that platform still get second-tier treatment. This isn't a technical limitation. San Andreas was a PS2 exclusive for over six months before hitting Xbox in 2004, and that delay pattern has simply hardened into company policy.

If you want to play GTA6 on day one, November 19, 2026 means choosing between a PS5 and an Xbox Series X/S. If you're banking on a PC version at launch, look at the gap between the console and PC releases for GTA5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. That gap is your answer.
