*GTA 6* Is Rumored to Change Its Marketing Again — Can Leaks Really Force Rockstar to Move Up the Schedule?
A couple of days ago, while browsing the community, it felt like suddenly spotting an unmarked path at the edge of a map. I had only meant to check whether there had been any new movement on GTA6, but instead I ended up taking another turn into a fresh wave of leak rumors. A leaker known as “Keemotion” said on social media that Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick had informed Rockstar that if GTA6 suffers another information leak, its marketing strategy will be adjusted. Right after that, he further hinted that related information “may be revealed earlier,” instantly reigniting players’ emotions.

The reason this news blew up is not just because GTA6 is such a huge title, but because it hit the nerve players are most sensitive about. On one side are those who believe it, thinking Rockstar has been battered enough by leaks over the years that changing the promotional timeline makes perfect sense; on the other side are those being much more cautious, directly questioning whether the source of the leak is trustworthy at all. Based on what is currently known, this matter still remains at the rumor stage, and there has been no official confirmation on whether material would really be released earlier because of leaks. So for now, it’s more like a question mark appearing on the map before you’ve actually walked up to it.

Looking at it from this angle, Take Two and Rockstar have in fact been consistently restrained in how they are promoting GTA6. Strauss Zelnick previously stated that the game’s marketing campaign will officially begin in summer 2026, in preparation for its release on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Combine that with the fact that it has already been delayed twice, both times for quality assurance, and you’ll see that what Rockstar fears most right now is not a lack of attention, but losing control of the pace. For an open-world blockbuster, marketing is like road construction: start too early and traffic gets chaotic; start too late and players grow restless.

Step back a little farther and you’ll find that GTA6 is different from an ordinary new release, because it has a very clear “history of leaks” behind it. In 2022, the game was hit by a hugely impactful leak, when a hacker released dozens of early development videos, practically laying half the construction map out in front of everyone. Then in April 2026, Rockstar Games confirmed another data leak, though the company emphasized that only “a limited amount of non-substantive corporate information” had been accessed. From that perspective, if management really has prepared a leak-response plan, I personally wouldn’t be surprised at all.

But beyond the map itself, what is even more worth discussing is the industry trend reflected in this rumor. Marketing for major AAA titles now increasingly resembles work in a high-pressure zone: confidentiality, trailer timing, community expectations—if any one of those points gets pried open, publishers are forced to redraw their route. If Rockstar really does release part of the information early because of leaks, then at its core this would not be a case of “players pushing for updates,” but rather a move to pull runaway information back under the official narrative. For players, the most rational attitude at this stage is still to wait for confirmation, not to treat leaks as signposts, and certainly not to take a single sentence on social media as a locked-in itinerary. After all, GTA6 is already confirmed to launch on November 19, 2026. What is truly worth looking forward to is whether that world, in the end, will really be worth exploring in every corner.
