Will GTA 6 really make it to Switch 2? I think this is a long shot
Questionable. At least for now, don’t be too quick to believe it.
The latest claim that GTA6 is coming to Switch 2 comes from insider Kiwi Talkz. The core point is simple: he’s preparing to fly to India to meet a Rockstar-related source and talk about the Switch 2 version of GTA6. According to him, this source has been sticking to one claim for the past few months — that GTA6 will launch simultaneously with the Switch 2 version.

But let’s draw the boundaries clearly first. Officially, GTA6 has only been confirmed for PS5 and Xbox. There has been no official announcement for a PC version, let alone a Switch 2 version. That point is crucial. Until it’s officially announced, any talk of a “simultaneous release” is still just a leak, not solid confirmation.
Kiwi Talkz himself doesn’t really seem convinced either. He even made a bet with the source over it. Based on the timeline in the article, when they originally discussed it, Rockstar had not yet delayed the game from May 29, 2026 to November 19, 2026. So the original bet was whether Rockstar would officially announce a Switch 2 version before May 2026. If there was still no news by that window, then Kiwi Talkz would win the bet.

Now for my own take. As someone who has spent years paying attention to hardware performance and frame rates, the wind-up on this just feels wrong.
Kiwi Talkz mentioned one point that I think is actually worth considering: the Switch 2’s CPU could be a major bottleneck. He also used Starfield as a comparison. NatetheHate previously claimed that a Switch 2 version of Starfield is still in development, but progress has been rocky. If that claim is true, then GTA6 — with clearly higher specs and a much heavier open-world workload — would only be even harder to launch on Switch 2 on day one.
This isn’t about looking down on Nintendo hardware. It’s a very real technical issue. Open worlds, city density, traffic AI, and physics simulation all put heavy demands on the CPU. In fighting games, you’d call that a brutal frame-rate tax. You can lower the visuals, and you can cut the resolution, but system load isn’t something you can just hand-wave away with a line about “cloud optimization.” If they really force it out, the biggest fear isn’t blurry graphics — it’s frame drops, input lag, and sluggish feedback. Once that happens, the whole feel of the game falls apart.

On top of that, the player community now seems roughly split into two camps. One side thinks Rockstar really might pull off something huge and use Switch 2 to tap into an even larger install base. The other side, like me, wants to see the official announcement first, then real gameplay footage, then the frame-rate numbers. Without those three, it’s all just shadowboxing.
If you’re deciding which platform to buy for GTA6, my advice is straightforward: for now, only make plans around PS5 and Xbox. PC players shouldn’t assume a simultaneous release either. As for Switch 2, keep it in the wait-and-see category. Don’t jump to conclusions based on a single leak, and definitely don’t let it change your buying decision yet.
One final point: this report itself also clearly stresses that everything above is still just insider information and has not been officially confirmed. My conclusion is simple: is it possible? Not entirely impossible. But if we’re talking about a simultaneous day-one release, I don’t consider that claim very credible right now. It’s like a heavy punch with a long wind-up — it looks intimidating, but whether it actually lands is something we’ll have to wait for Rockstar to show us.
