Chinese roguelike Kun Ge revealed: basketball benches as weapons
A new domestic 3D action roguelike called Kun Ge has been officially revealed at Bilibili's Game Preview event with its first trailer. Developed in Unreal Engine 5, the game supports both single-player and multiplayer modes and will launch as a premium title on PC and consoles. The Steam page is now live.
Here's where it gets interesting. The weapon system made me laugh the moment I saw it. Basketball, bench, guitar, dice, yo-yo, spinning top, fireworks, drone—can you believe that? The developers straight-up said combat is designed to be absurd, with each weapon having its own playstyle. I'm already picturing myself whacking a boss with a bench. That's wild enough to work.
The world-building has potential too. A fantasy realm above the clouds, featuring floating islands, giant Kun creatures, and civilizations built on their backs—clearly rooted in Chinese aesthetics. Unreal Engine 5's visual capabilities should deliver solid lighting and modeling. Roguelike mechanics paired with multiplayer mode guarantee replayability.
But here's the catch: we've only got one trailer. Actual combat feel, balance tuning, and content volume remain unknown. The domestic roguelike scene has seen plenty of releases in recent years, but only a handful truly deliver. If the premium pricing is reasonable, it's worth keeping an eye on. The Steam page accepts wishlists now—I'd recommend adding it and waiting for gameplay footage and playtest feedback before committing.
