Team Ninja has confirmed that Nioh 3’s second DLC, “Amakusa Rebellion,” is in active development and will conclude Takechiyo’s story—according to an interview with AUTOMATON. Producer Goichi Shibata said the studio currently has no concrete plans for a sequel or spin-off, though he personally hopes the series continues someday.

The Nioh series built its reputation on fast, satisfying combat, constant tension, hard-won rewards, and deep build variety—elements Shibata himself cites as core to its appeal. With the first major expansion, “Keian Hellspawn,” already released, expectations are high for “Amakusa Rebellion” to deliver a satisfying finale to a narrative arc spanning four years. Yet the announcement that there’s no sequel in the works stings—not with anger, but with disappointment. Team Ninja already has what works: fast, precise combat, meaningful character builds, and victories that feel earned. So why step back now?

Beyond nostalgia, the timing couldn’t be worse. The soulslike action space is more crowded than ever, with Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Rise of the Rōnin recently entering the fray. If Nioh ends here, it walks away from a space it helped define. Some fans worry the series never got the global spotlight it deserved.

That doesn’t diminish Team Ninja’s craftsmanship. As Shibata notes, the series’ enduring draw lies in its blend of tension, payoff, and tactical variety—the exact mix fans want from a samurai action game. Every parry, every burst of Ki, every narrow escape delivers on that promise.
If you haven’t picked up Nioh 3 yet, wait for “Amakusa Rebellion” to drop and grab the complete edition. This might be your last chance to run a full Nioh 3 campaign—from start to Takechiyo’s finale.
