Pokémon Legends: Z-A Graphics Compared to Scarlet & Violet: Players Praise the Improvements, but Some Say "Rendered Demos Don't Count"
The announcement of Pokémon Wind/Wave has reignited debate over the series' graphical capabilities. As the mainline entry for Generation X, the game is slated for a 2027 release, set in a brand-new region composed of numerous islands and vast oceans.

YouTube channel GVG recently released a side-by-side comparison video of Wind/Wave and the Generation IX titles Scarlet/Violet, focusing on ocean, water surface, and town environments. The comparison reveals notable improvements in lighting, texture quality, and environmental detail. Given the reputation Scarlet/Violet left behind in terms of optimization, this level of upgrade was essentially a must for the series.

Player reactions are generally positive, with comments like "the water effects look absolutely stunning" and "we can finally talk about a mainline 3D Pokémon game that actually looks good" being typical responses. However, many are keeping their expectations in check: "Putting together an impressive-looking rendered demo isn't that hard — the real test comes when we see actual gameplay. I'm not getting my hopes up." More blunt takes include: "It's been way too long since Pokémon has had a genuine breakthrough. I'm far from convinced at this point."

From a design perspective, graphics comparison videos are inherently the most favorable showcase environment — lighting and textures tend to shine under controlled camera conditions. Whether Wind/Wave can deliver on its promises in areas that truly stress-test the engine — such as open-world traversal smoothness and frame rate stability — remains to be seen, and will require further real-world gameplay footage to verify.
