The PS5's 825GB internal SSD delivers roughly 667GB of usable space after formatting, and system reserves eat further into that. Modern AAA titles start at 100GB; Call of Duty installations routinely exceed 200GB. A handful of games later, you're juggling deletions. Sony's official intervention acknowledges a pain point users have lived with for years.

The official chart breaks down each storage method's scope: USB expansion drives handle PS4 games and media files only—PS5 titles must run from the internal SSD or M.2 slot. Cloud storage requires PS+ membership but syncs saves across devices, useful for multi-console households. The logic mirrors a tiered system: high-speed SSDs for active duty, USB drives for reserve stock you transfer in when needed.

Cost-wise, M.2 SSDs meeting Sony's spec start around ¥600-700 for 1TB PCIe 4.0 models.
