On PS5, that still lines up with what most players expect from a boxed release: something collectible, something you can put on a shelf, something that feels like it belongs in a library. On Switch 2, though, the so-called physical edition is reportedly just a boxed download code, with only a printed redemption slip inside and no game card at all.

That is the kind of detail that changes how the product feels, even if the game itself is the same. A boxed code may still work perfectly well, but for players who buy console physical editions because they care about ownership, display, or simply having something tangible in hand, it is clearly not the same experience. Once the box is all that remains, a lot of the appeal disappears.
