Resident Evil 9 Requiem PS5 Comparison Sparks Debate
Resident Evil 9: Requiem highlights the comparison’s basic trade-off in ElAnalistaDeBits’s Steam Machine-versus-PS5 test: the Steam Machine is faster in everyday operation, but the PS5 performs better in actual gameplay. Across most tested games, the PS5 averaged around 15 frames per second ahead, while the Steam Machine’s advantages appeared in loading, system response, downloads, and selected FSR 4 image-quality tests.
The Steam Machine’s clearest advantage is speed outside gameplay. It loads games faster, starts and restarts more quickly, resumes from sleep sooner, and downloads games faster over both Wi-Fi and wired connections. In games that support FSR 4, it can also produce better image quality. Together, those advantages make the system feel more responsive and PC-like.

Frame rate is the more important difference. Using similar visual settings and performance modes, ElAnalistaDeBits found the PS5 ahead in most tested games by roughly 15 frames on average. In demanding titles, the Steam Machine may even need to drop to 1080p to maintain smooth performance. Sharper image quality and quicker system response cannot make up for the lower frame rates in play.

The Steam Machine is not behind in every case. In a small number of games, including Resident Evil 9: Requiem, its support for unlocked frame rates allows it to edge ahead. That shows the hardware can perform well when a game allows it to use those frame rates, but current game support and the overall price fail to turn that advantage into a compelling purchase.

For buyers, the PS5 remains the safer recommendation, especially for players who prioritize stable frame rates in major releases. The Steam Machine offers faster loading, stronger system responsiveness, quicker downloads, and more PC-like flexibility, yet it falls behind in core gaming performance.
