Ubisoft Montpellier hiring for AAA project, Prince of Persia revival in the works?
Ubisoft Montpellier posted a job listing for Lead Level Design Technical Director on an unannounced Unreal Engine 5 project currently in early concept phase. The listing describes a full 3D game, prompting widespread speculation about a new Prince of Persia title.

The timing raises questions. In January 2026, Ubisoft's Project Purge axed the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake and disbanded the Lost Crown development team. For Montpellier's "fourth creative pillar" ambitions, only Prince of Persia fits the scale requirement beyond the Rayman remake already in production.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 survived the purge, signaling Ubisoft's shifted IP priorities. Montpellier's choice of UE5 over the in-house Anvil engine suggests a deliberate technical divergence from Montreal, Mumbai, and Pune studios—the Sands of Time remake collapsed partly due to technical debt and multi-studio coordination failures.

If this is indeed a new Prince of Persia, players will watch for signs it avoids Lost Crown's fate. That 2.5D Metroidvania earned critical praise but missed Ubisoft's sales targets, leading to team dissolution. A full 3D game in early concept phase shows Ubisoft willing to bet on the IP again—whether they've learned from past mistakes depends on what surfaces next.
