Heartbeat Calculation demo drops April 28 — romance meets mystery in an AI-driven city

Shochiku Corporation is launching its first original romance visual novel for PC, Shinzō Enzan (Heart Image Calculation), with a free trial dropping April 28, 2026 at 5 PM on Steam. The twist: you won't play as the protagonist—instead, you'll experience the story through "Hikari," a third-party observer, a deliberate choice the developers say will help players make more informed decisions when the full version arrives.

The game bills itself as "romance × mystery" set in Xenoria, the world's first city run entirely by AI. Algorithms can optimize traffic flow and resource allocation, but they can't predict when a human heart shifts direction. That tension—cold logic versus warm emotion—sits at the core of the narrative. Full Japanese voice acting is included, with subtitles in Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and English. The voice cast, judging from the latest trailer by popular creator Emumero, appears carefully selected.

This is a cross-industry experiment: Shochiku partnered with Leona Software and GameBridge for development. The game will appear at Shanghai FEVERCON on April 25, 2026, specifically at the indie game doujin event ONLY 2.0, if you want an early look at the booth setup. The trial functions as an invitation—a chance to observe the city's outline from outside before deciding whether to step through the door when the full release lands. In a place like Xenoria, every choice might carry variables the algorithm never saw coming.
