Among Us Ends Support for the 2024 Version as Older Clients Face Removal
Among Us will no longer support its 2024 version as of today, according to an official announcement from Innersloth. The studio is urging anyone still on the older build to update as soon as possible, saying the move will help prevent malicious disruption and allow the team to keep expanding the social deduction game. For a game built around 4 to 10-player online matches, the reasoning is straightforward: keep the client current, cut down on malicious disruption, and make future updates easier to roll out.
The announcement also speaks to a broader problem multiplayer games keep running into. Ending support for an old version is normal enough on paper. In a game like Among Us, though, players should be worrying about impostors, not client issues, bots, or hackers. Once that doubt shifts from player behavior to the client itself, the social deduction starts to break down.

Innersloth did not overcomplicate the message. The studio's position was simple: if you have not updated, do it now. The stated reason is to help stop malicious disruption and make it easier for the team to continue expanding the game. That logic is practical. Among Us is not carried by visuals, combat feel, or sheer map scale. What keeps it working is the suspicion between players. If the game itself feels unreliable, discussion, voting, bluffing, and second-guessing lose their edge quickly.
The comments are focused on three questions. Some players are asking whether anyone is still actually using the 2024 version. Others want to know if cutting off support will reduce bots or hackers. There is also debate over whether the 2024 update was effectively a test build to begin with. For now, though, the official line is clear enough: support for the old version has ended, and players are being told to upgrade. Whether that materially reduces disruption is the part players will be watching.

The less encouraging takeaway is that many players now treat multiplayer dysfunction as normal. Lag, scripts, cheats, bots. See them often enough, and surprise gives way to resignation. That is especially damaging in a social deduction game, where every accusation and denial depends on a basic level of trust. At minimum, ending support for the old build shows the studio does not want an outdated version continuing to cause problems.
