In BUZZ or DIE, Every Like Can Mean Life or Death
Kodansha Creators’ Lab has announced that indie game creator Van (@EgoMixer) has officially joined Game Creators' Lab (GCL) as a lab member. The Steam page for BUZZ or DIE has also been revamped with a new key visual, and the listing confirms a planned 2026 release. The game takes place on a death-row reality show where popularity matters more than justice.

BUZZ or DIE ties its death-row reality show to the logic of online attention. Players form a two-person team with a death-row inmate, while winners and losers are determined by audience votes and likes. It is an intentionally ugly system, but one with a clear purpose.
The roster includes a former cult leader, a bomber, a genius teen hacker, a revolutionary, and a cannibal chef. The stakes are absolute: the final winner earns a full pardon and the right to have any wish granted. Those who lose are publicly executed during the live broadcast and become the prototypes for bionic robots used as slaves.
The game is built around two main activities: investigation and cover-image creation. Players investigate rival contestants, then design cover images for short videos. Those choices influence the videos produced by their partner. Together, these systems make visibility and audience engagement central to progression.

That setup is more interesting than a typical death-game premise because the brutality comes from the audience rather than the rules alone. The idea is simple: whatever methods players use, failing to go viral means death.
Van created EgoMixer and 一路十二时 and is known for strongly defined characters and dark worlds that leave room for interpretation. For BUZZ or DIE, manga artist 冈田淳司 is handling the character illustrations and story event CGs. His credits include 《双生遊戯》 and 《タタキザサイドハッスル》.

At the very least, the project already has a clear hook in its character designs and emotional tension.
The practical advice is straightforward: do not rush into a purchase. BUZZ or DIE is scheduled to launch on Steam in 2026, with support planned for Japanese, English, and Simplified Chinese. Its price has not been announced, and the game is listed as a single-player experience. It makes more sense to wait for a demo, details on playtime, and an assessment of localization quality before making a final judgment.

What can already be said with confidence is that the concept alone makes BUZZ or DIE worth watching.
