The Ghost of Yotei bundle suddenly turned out to be a great deal, saving nearly $120

This round of console price adjustments feels a lot like a sudden overhaul of the economy system in a sandbox game: the total cost of resources has gone up, and what used to be an ordinary bundle has instantly become a high-value option. After Sony raised the price of the PS5 disc version to $649.99 earlier this month, the Ghost of Yotei PS5 bundle now looks like an even better deal by comparison. For players who still haven’t bought a PS5 and plan to jump into the game at launch, the bundle now genuinely feels more like the kind of purchase decision that’s “hard to get wrong” than buying everything separately.

When you break down the numbers, the contrast becomes even clearer. When the bundle first launched last year, it was priced at $599.99, while the official price of the PS5 disc version at the time was $549.99, meaning the bundle added $50 on top of the base console price. Even so, if players had chosen to buy the console and the game separately last year, the total would still have come out to about $20 more than this bundle, so it was never a “bad-value package” to begin with—it just wasn’t compelling enough to make people instantly place an order.

The real turning point came after this latest price hike. Based on the current pricing, by 2026 the PS5 disc version will cost $649.99, while the standard edition of Ghost of Yotei will be $69.99, bringing the total to around $720 if bought separately. But the bundle is still holding at $599.99, which suddenly widens the gap to nearly $120. What used to be just “saving a little” has now become more like “saving the cost of a full game plus part of an accessory budget.”

From a consumer psychology perspective, this kind of shift can easily drive up interest in the bundle. Players are no longer just focused on Ghost of Yotei itself, but on whether the total cost of getting started has been pushed down. After the console price increase, many people will likely reshuffle their budgets, replacing the two-step plan of “buy the console first, then pick up the game later” with a one-shot bundle purchase. That’s also why IGN believes the price hike has actually made this bundle’s value proposition significantly stronger.

If you don’t already own a PS5 and your purchase goal is clear—if you’re specifically buying in for Ghost of Yotei—then my advice is simple: prioritize the bundle, and don’t buy the standalone console first only to circle back for the game later. On the other hand, if you already have a PS5, then this price change mainly affects when you choose to buy the game itself, not your choice of hardware package. Simply put, the price hike hasn’t benefited everyone, but it has definitely reshuffled the “best entry option for new players.”

What’s even more worth noting is that this kind of situation highlights a real issue for the industry: when console prices keep rising overall, bundles that manufacturers keep at the same price often become a more convincing entry point than standalone products. For platform holders, this acts as a buffer to help stabilize new-user conversion; for players, it’s a way to find the lowest-loss path in a high-barrier environment. Ghost of Yotei hasn’t suddenly become dramatically cheaper this time—it’s just that after the PS5 got more expensive, the value of its bundle has been fully amplified.
