God of War: Laufey preview leaks, with five gods possibly set to clash

---

Comicbook has a new take on God of War: Laofei, and it argues that Sony Santa Monica’s next-gen project is shifting the spotlight away from Kratos and onto Laofei. The site says the game will center on Everywhen, an afterlife realm where gods and creatures from different mythologies converge, and notes that the official build has already shown two war gods: Sekhmet and Begtse.

The setup does widen the series’ scope. Centering Laofei would let God of War move beyond family conflict and into broader mythological clashes. It could also be easier to enter for players who care more about character work and atmosphere than dense lore.

Everywhen is where the speculation gets more interesting. Comicbook describes it as a death world that brings together gods and beings from multiple pantheons, which makes the setting a common meeting ground for different mythologies. Its prediction is that a struggle for control is already brewing there, and it points to five likely candidates for God of War: Laofei: Ares, Huitzilopochtli, Jiutian Xuannv, Morrigan, and Tyr.

On the theory front, Ares is the easiest name to explain: he was already killed by Kratos, but Everywhen being an afterlife gives the character a clean route back in. Huitzilopochtli is a plausible pick too, especially since rumors about Aztec mythology entering the series have persisted since God of War: Ragnarok launched.

Fan speculation is already filling in some of the blanks. In the exposed material, a character named Rue is guarding a long sword with a distinctly Chinese flavor, and some fans think it may be the Xuanyuan Sword. Jiutian Xuannv fits neatly as an ally or mentor, since she is associated with war, strategy, and swords, while Morrigan makes sense as a high-IQ antagonist built for psychological warfare. Comicbook also says Mimir effectively corresponds to Puck in Celtic mythology, which would help fold Morrigan into that tradition. Tyr should return as well, and his experience moving through different mythologies would make him a natural guide for Laofei in Everywhen.
