Shadowverse streamer rushed to hospital after sudden illness mid-match?

According to GameSky, a ranked Shadowverse match between streamer Octopus Bro and Japanese streamer otaku took an unexpected turn when otaku became unwell during his livestream and called an ambulance. Medical responders later determined there was no life-threatening danger or emergency, and otaku has since said he was clear-headed and had no serious physical problems.

The game state, however, leaves out what was happening off-screen. Octopus Bro had just cleared otaku's board with Power, after which otaku began repeatedly passing turns and then stopped making moves for an extended stretch. From the other side of a ranked match, that looks a lot like deliberately burning the clock. Octopus Bro initially took it that way. That was a reasonable reading of the situation from the other side of the match.

The post-match explanation gave those pauses a different meaning. otaku said that during the stream he experienced irregular breathing, confusion, and unclear speech, then called an ambulance. Emergency personnel determined that there was no life-threatening danger or emergency, and otaku ultimately went home to rest.

otaku later added that the unclear speech was caused by a dislocated jaw. After it was put back into place, his speech returned to normal. He also said that he was currently clear-headed and had no serious physical problems. The archived video from that day has also been made non-public.

The incident also shows how little context a livestream can provide. A few seconds without input in a match can look like a gag for viewers, or a player trying to waste time. In reality, it can also mean the person on stream is no longer physically able to continue. The pressure to keep a ranked session moving can make that misreading easier.

For players, the practical takeaway is straightforward. If you start feeling seriously unwell while streaming, grinding ranked, or forcing yourself through one more match, ending the session matters more than protecting a score. Your health comes first. The ladder can wait.
