Marvelous used its August 25 anniversary livestream for Story of Seasons' 30th anniversary and Rune Factory's 20th anniversary to show in-development gameplay from the next Story of Seasons game. The footage gave viewers their first look at the new game's setting and animals, though the project, first announced in 2023, still has no title or announced platforms.
For this series, a first look at the town and its animals carries more weight than it might elsewhere. Seeing the setting and animals finally appear is enough to make players who treat these games as long-term routines pay attention. Story of Seasons began in 1996, reached its 30th anniversary on August 6 this year, and has now produced more than 30 entries. Its appeal has always been practical as much as sentimental: a steady Japanese life-sim rhythm of growing crops, raising animals, visiting town, building relationships, getting married, and settling into a daily rural loop.

The footage suggests Marvelous is putting more weight on the natural side of farm life. The stated development concept is a "brand-new farm experience," and the build shown in the stream makes that pitch fairly clear. The four seasons look more distinct, while nighttime streetlights and fireworks give the game noticeably richer light and shadow than past entries.
The distinction matters: farm games can easily turn into calendar busywork. Seasonal shifts, special events on fixed dates, and changing weather are what keep the passage of time from feeling mechanical. The new game is also expanding its weather system with extreme conditions including typhoons, blizzards, and strong winds. If those effects actually change where players can go and how they plan the farm, the daily routine could become more deliberate.
The glider is the clearest design signal so far. This is the first time the Story of Seasons series has added a glider as a way to get around. Previous entries mostly treated movement as support for the daily routine, but a glider suggests the areas around the farm may be designed to make sense from above. It does not need to become an open-world game. It only needs to make fields, mountain paths, riverbanks, and the town feel different from a higher angle. For players who instinctively want to check every corner, it has the appeal of getting a new vehicle in a Japanese RPG and realizing the map has opened up again.

For now, the sensible response is restraint. The next Story of Seasons was first revealed in 2023, remains untitled, and still has no announced platforms. Anyone already interested does not need to start thinking about a preorder. The better move is to watch for deeper system reveals, especially social systems, animal variety, seasonal events, and how far the new weather effects actually reach.
Marvelous has also updated the Story of Seasons 30th anniversary special website with a commemorative group illustration featuring the top 10 characters from the earlier character popularity poll. That makes it clear the publisher knows exactly what longtime players respond to. The remaining question is whether the new lighting, weather, and glider will feed into collecting, social systems, and time management, or simply sit on top as anniversary window dressing. If it is only the latter, the excitement could fade well before launch.
